Let's Say Something Nice About Protestants!

I've been a deeply involved Protestant for my whole life (I'm 39.) I'm becoming a Catholic Saturday on Easter Vigil.

I deeply love the serious faith of Mennonites, the Amish, etc. as they kept the faith through the centuries..... They suffered persecution throughout western and middle Europe and as recently as the 19th and 20th centuries in Russia... They took seriously Jesus' sermon on the mount.

I love the fact that Protestants have breathed tremendous life into the modern missions movements around the world.

I love that the movements against slavery in the 1800's had many Protestant roots.

I love that groups like the Salvation Army and the Wesley brothers (Methodism, Wesleyism, etc.) did so much work for the urban poor....

I love the seriousness with which orthodox Protestants take evangelization and the great commission...

I love my separated brethren... I wish they would read John 17 and see Jesus' heartfelt prayer to God that "they may be one"..... and realize that Catholics are not enemies secretly looking for excuses to persecute them :sadder: but that there is true life through Christ in the Catholic Church.... Ut Unum Sint!!

You guys rock!!! :punk: I'm so glad I found this place. It has turned into a refuge in my own apartment. Many of you have said that protestants have challenged you to learn more about your faith, well it works both ways. I've learned a lot from you guys and I've done some investigating on my own. The Catholic church is amazing!!! It's just a shame that so many people are ignorant and don't really look into what the Catholic faith is all about. Anyway, all these great things you have said about protestants...right back at ya!!! ^_^

something else I wanted to say is that protestants have awesome preachers and musicians! They have an awesome way of evangelizing through the media, Christian radio stations and stuff. And I love it when I see Christian music in normal music stores, and its mostly protestants making it.

God bless.

i too admire their zeal and oftimes their personality morality and deep DEEP love of Christ and his word....I do not admire their willingness to compartamentilize their lives and lack of use of reason.....wait that wasn;t positive...but i still stand by my words, I would rather be dead then not be Catholic!

Growing up mildly/culturally Catholic, I'd never known a practicing Christian until fundamentalist Protestant friend Hector challenged me in college. Since that time, friends John (a wandering Protestant) and Peter (a convert to Catholicism last May, and a current phatmass bigshot) have had more influence on my Catholicity than anyone...

Responding to an earlier poster... In the south (at least since the deaths of Walker Percy and Flannery O'Connor), Catholiclife must surele be tremendously lonely. But, in the north (and east and west), most born Catholics, by the numbers, tend not to take their faith seriously. It's simply a fact. And it's simply our duty to attend to the rectification of that fact...

There are things that Protestants have over us. Especially the cafeteria Catholics.

Hopefully, they an beat me at getting sleep, or else I'd be writing more than this!
Protestants most of the time build nicer churches than Catholics.
Well, that is a sad reflection of the revisionist architecture that is/(hopefully "was") goin through the Catholic Church. The result of this is what my dh likes to call "Pizza Hut Churches". Not conducive to prayer, at least, not for me.

Uh oh, I may be getting off topic here! Sorry!

C.Thunderer,

Thanks for the props, bro. Know that I could never have made it to the Easter Vigil without your faithful witness.

peace...
