N/A Gone
This is kind of a brain fluffy air extraction. I have always been told that in fasting and abstinence we have the food customs (no meat, or no food period) but also that couples were supposed to restrain from sex during these times. Like paul says that couples should abstain from sex in order to devout themselves to prayer and fasting. but when I was reading the Canon law on fasting (1250 I believe until 1254) it does not mention abstaining from sex. But this has always been what I was taught... Am I wrong? Why would this be what i was taught when the Canon law does not mention it?
Thy Geekdom Come
I think it's a custom that is a traditional private devotion in the Roman Rite (I vaguely remember something about it being a matter of law in the East, but I'm not sure). Afraid I can't tell you anything official. God bless, Micah
CatherineM
It may also have come from older versions of Canon Law. There was a time when priests were allowed to be married, and followed the Jewish custom that priests not have sex the night before presiding. I also vaguely recall that some SSPX folks do the Wednesday/Friday fasts that include sex.
