OraProMe
In the Old Testament God tests Abraham by asking him to sacrifice his son on the altar. This is a test of Abraham's faith and love in God. But if God is omnipotent and knows the deepest dimensions of our humanity then why would he need to test Abraham? Wouldn't he already know the answer? The same can be said of Job.
Thy Geekdom Come
God knows what a person will do before he does it, but if God simply decides what we will do and judges us based on that, He wouldn't give us a chance to act freely. God knows what we will do because God sees what we freely choose to do. If we never have the opportunity to choose, then our existence would be no better than God playing with dolls. Abraham didn't choose because God knew he would, God knew he would because he did. The moments that are in the future for us and our future actions are in the present to God, because all things and all time are present to him. I hope this helps. It's a very difficult idea to wrap your mind around and very hard to explain, especially when one does not understand completely himself. CatherineM
Look at it this way. God knew how deep Abraham's faith was going to be, but Abraham didn't. We don't know what we are truly capable of until we are tested.
