Brother Adam
anathema oh yeah. The stool from which Non-Catholics swing the whip. But how should someone reading this word really take it? If a Baptist is educated about Catholicism, it is the Council of Trent that they have read to positively prove the Catholic Church is the whore of babylon. Hananiah
The Catholic Church uses the word in the exact same sense the Apostle Paul used it (Galatians 1:8-9; 5:4).
luciana
BTW, Anathema is Greek for accursed. C.1:8-9But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach (to you) a gospel other than the one that we preached to you, let that one be accursed!* As we have said before, and now I say again, if anyone preaches to you a gospel other than the one that you received, let that one be accursed! Ch. 5:4 You are separated from Christ, you who are trying to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. (The context BTW is St. Paul talking about circumsicion and other Mosaic works of the law) * Accursed: in Greek, anathema; cf Romans 9:3; 1 Cor 12:3; 16:22. This from the online NAB So they would be" fallen from grace" and would need to be reconciled w/ the Lord and the Church to be able to return.
