ironmonk
that don't do a very good job of agreeing with one another...and sometimes get buried in order to "maintain" the ONENESS of Catholic doctrine. laugh Jason...water off a duck's back.
Catholic laymen all are at different points of learning. There is One Faith... the One Teaching of the Church. The faith is a lifelong learning process. With 2000 years of history and growth in the Gospel of Christ, there is a lot to learn, especially in our day and age. Please remember that Christ tells us that there will be weeds among the wheat. All Catholic laymen will not agree... there are even clergy that do not agree, but there is only One official teaching. Those who go against the official teaching could be weeds, or have not a full understanding of the teaching. Saying that we laymen disagree as a point against the Church is pointless and has no logic behind it. We know very well that we laymen do not always agree. Don't equal laymen to the Church teaching... that would be the wrong way to look at things. Wheat and weeds are in the Church until the harvest. the lumberjack
Catholic laymen all are at different points of learning.
as are Christians. "developing" doctrine, maybe...but when it comes out as OFFICIAL teaching of the church...then gets switched to something else, that makes you no different from any other denomination.
Saying that we laymen disagree as a point against the Church is pointless and has no logic behind it. We know very well that we laymen do not always agree.
and this is fine, this is how we learn. by revealing what the Lord has revealed to us... thru His Word, thru His Holy Spirit, and thru the awesome brothers and sisters in Christ that we have. Not what is the current paper or pile of papers posted in the vatican as the official teaching of the church.
Don't equal laymen to the Church teaching... that would be the wrong way to look at things.
here's the thing, laymen ARE the church teaching. and if a laymen can't minister the WHOLE church teaching with nothing but the Bible, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, then is the "church teaching" really profitable? especially when it would take an EXHAUSTING amount of time to dig thru the archives of catholic tradition? you're an awesome guy, ironmonk...and I pray nothing but God's best for you. really. God bless.
