Then again, the Nazis weren't exactly the good guys in WWII - perhaps you might do better to look at a list of German thinkers or musicians or...saints?

I realize you asked for a Gen/private/major, but there's Claus, from Claus Philipp Maria Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg, he was Catholic, a Colonel, highly decorated and part of the German resistance againts the Nazi's.
