I just don't see the point to owning those type of weapons for personal use. sorry, I just don't see it.
Because they are fun? We are just not going to see eye to eye on this one.

Furthermore, the people who could afford the weapons you are saying they shouldn't own, are probably going to be the ones who can handle them properly. It is the people with the more accessible guns that are more liable to be "dangerous" because they do not know how to handle them properly. This still does not mean we have to limit gun usage. Just provide training programs.

Where do you get the idea that firearms secure liberty from the possible despotism of the government?

Go nose to nose with an LCP in Kevlar and a 50. mounted on a striker with your 30/30 Winchester and see who wins.

Many on the right scream bloody murder whenever the defense budget is cut and yet act as though individuals being allowed to own as many shotguns as they wish without a background check is going to enable them to fend of federal forces should the feds ever become tyrannical. If you want "Joe Six Pack" with a shot gun to be the check on government despotism you'd better cut that multi, multi billions dollar budget for developing advanced weaponry technology and that massive large professional military. Shot guns don't work against predator drones and Joe is going to need to drop about 70 pounds, master small unit tactics and learn to drop a man at 250 years if he's going to take on that federal agency under the department of the Navy known as the USMC.
I could not agree more concerning your premise.

I think from a Catholic and Christian perspective, the arms race for newer and more destructive weapons is a curse upon us and not a good thing. America may indeed some day, though hopefully never, use the weapons we developed on her own people.

That would smell of elderberries.

After recent events within the last 30 minutes. Just convinced me that you guys are completely right about the whole gun control thing! I'm sorry I ever thought that way.

30 minutes ago there was a major shooting outside my house, on my street, and after what we just learned and saw, im thinking in a whole new way!

There is an apartment complex up the street from my neighborhood. I live in descent part of town, no gangs, unless u call the white boys trying to be tu-pac and biggie gang bangers. But in that apartment complex, it has became to be known as the jungle. Ofcourse its full of minorities, who barely make it, section 8 folks from louisiana etc. Well tonight there was a gang shooting between different fractions of the apartment complex, who were "cruising" the streets and they happen to come upon each other and just started mouthing off at each other and then one thing led to another and they started popping off the handuns. Well my initial reaction was, grab my 9 and head out there, well I almost did till my mother started screaming in terror. So I grabbed my pistol and ran to her room, well all of a sudden I hear something pounding on the door. So I went downstairs and it was our neighbors, who ran from there house, in the middle of the shooting because 2 of the guys kicked down there door and threw them out, like the cowards that they are. Man I wanted to go out there and start shooting at all of them. If they did that to my house, I dont know what I would have done, but a single pistol wouldnt have done the job.

this all lasted for like 6 to 7 minutes, but it was the longest 6 to 7 minutes of my life. We just got done speaking to the cops before I posted my first post. I had to tell you guys that my mind has changed completely, because I saw exactly where you all were coming from at this point.

In that kind of chaos, running outside with a pistol might get you shot by a cop. I understand wanting to do that, but it was much more important for you to stay and protect your family.

Protecting your family is the reason a private citizen keeps guns in their house anyway. Kinda defeats the purpose if you go out Rambo style.

Yeah i know but I guess I thought I was protecting them like that. idk what came over me. I feel like I saw another side of who I am, and i wasnt scared of it, but i sort of embraced it. Im just glad my mom screamed. cuz ur right, a cop might have killed me. Only one cop car showed up, within 3 minutes, then 2 more showed up after like 5 minutes. By then most those guys were gone, with the exception of a few.

I'm glad you and your fam are okay, it would have been a bad idea go outside.
Never go looking for trouble, just be prepared to deal with it when it finds you.

If that's your opinion then fine BUT, i wil leave you with these parting words.
1. I don't dial 911
2. It takes aproximittely 3 minutes for a cop to get to the scene, a person with a personal gun takes 3 seconds to act.
3. Once the freedom of our second amendment rights are taken away the goverment can restrict our freedom faster.
4. Guns have two enemys RUST and POLITICIONS.
5. The person with the better gun will always have the 1+ advantage.
6. With proper use of the firearm we can prevent crime and fight it.

You are the government champ.

The current, more robust understanding of the second amendment is a relatively recent.

Again, the idea that a armed populace is an effective deterrent against government fascism.

If you believe this is the case then you need to also support a military approximately armed with no greater capabilities than a any particular civilian. An AR-15 is going to lose a fight against a Trident submarine seven days of the wek and twice on Sundays.

Well, the guy with the AR-15 will have to come up for air first, that's for sure.

Secuutus,

I'm glad you came to that realization. I'm sorry you had to come to it in such a manner. As you can now see, we "civilians" have the training to know when and how not to engage.

That pistol felt mighty small in your hand, didn't it? Not a good tool for serious social work past 25 meters in the heat of the moment. May I suggest the Ruger Mini-14 Tactical as your first effective "defense from assault" rifle?

As Jeff Cooper said, "The pistol is just a tool to let you fight your way back to your rifle, which you never should have left in the first place."

If I did the things the State claims the right to do, I would be arrested for robbery, aggravated assault, and murder in a very short time.
The current, more robust understanding of the second amendment is a relatively recent.
To modern people, perhaps. Not to the man who wrote the Second Amendment and the people who ratified it. Or anyone who is familiar with the terms used and related contemporaneous documents.
