Maximilianus
Okay. How about: Treat every weapon as if it were loaded. Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you intend to fire. Never point your weapon at anything you dont intend to shoot. Keep your weapon on safe until you intend to fire. princessgianna
Good but this is more of a "freedom to have fire arms" than "safty for fire arms".

Go nose to nose with an LCP in Kevlar and a 50. mounted on a striker with your 30/30 Winchester and see who wins. Many on the right scream bloody murder whenever the defense budget is cut and yet act as though individuals being allowed to own as many shotguns as they wish without a background check is going to enable them to fend of federal forces should the feds ever become tyrannical. If you want "Joe Six Pack" with a shot gun to be the check on government despotism you'd better cut that multi, multi billions dollar budget for developing advanced weaponry technology and that massive large professional military. Shot guns don't work against predator drones and Joe is going to need to drop about 70 pounds, master small unit tactics and learn to drop a man at 250 years if he's going to take on that federal agency under the department of the Navy known as the USMC. Maximilianus
Um, I carried a shotgun as part of a Marine security force when I was a Lance Corporal. And if by LCP you mean Lance Corporal I must inform you that the Marine corps doesn't use the wannabe LAV, er I mean Stryker.
Hassan
The romanticism of the American Revolution promotes this idea I think. The American revolution was a unique event made possible by the unique conditions on the ground and the geo-political situation of the UK at the time. It's not one that could be repeated in contemporary America against the federal government. Mujaheddin and Taliban fighters in Afghanistan fighting with Kalashnikovs they pulled off dead Soviet Soldiers 20 years ago may well defeat US and NATO forces in Afghanistan. Those same Mujaheddin and Taliban trying to fight that same military but in the United States at this point in time would be slaughtered. How would the Colonists have fared if they carried the fight over to England?

Hassan
Actually, seriously. I know an former Recon Marine who was in the armory with some Navy SEALS on a sea tour when one of them accidentally shot his buddy in the head because he was screwing around with a pistol he thought was unloaded. Gun safety isn't just for boy scouts.
