So, I have to continue to wonder if I'm going with golden elegance or playful folly. [/quote] What if you did golden elegance on one side and playful folly on the other? Just think... You'll go to the next Meeting for homeschoolers with this beautiful vest of rich red and gold... and all of the other homeschool Moms will go oooh! and ahh! Then the next week they'll run into you at the grocery store when you're wearing Charlie Brown Christmas and they will go... homeschoolmom! You have all these awesome vests! And only you will know they're the same thing! Plus, it's perfect because then when you need to dress up after being casual all day, all you have to do is flip it around! homeschoolmom
Well, yes... that has crossed my mind.... but... I'm trying to decide if I'm going with Christmas on one side and a more generic winter theme on the other so that I can wear it for more than a few weeks.... Or doing the elegant/fun thing.... or if I just pony up and do more than one (she's made three for me already). The fun thing about doing Charlie Brown Christmas is that I can wear it for 11/11, too. And if you don't know about 11/11 and how we Charlie Brown dance that day, you can do a search. Suffice to say, I'd wear it. On the other hand, hsdaughter mentioned that the fabric is a little loud ("Mom, it comes up and shouts 'BOO!' at you-- you don't want that!") http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog.jsp?CATID=cat493850&PRODID=xprd326595 I also like something like this: http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog.jsp?CATID=cat493850&PRODID=xprd697623

That way its not so overpowering.
CatherineM
I've spent the morning cutting up parachutes. Got 3 army cargo chutes at the recycle store for free. I use them for linings. Don't even ask what I recycled for the insulation for his coat. God forbid I should pay retail for anything.

Honestly, I hadn't thought about pockets... none of the other ones have pockets (I tend to load pockets like crazy and I didn't want to stretch 'em).... homeschoolmom
Yeah, I think I'm going with that blue Charlie Brown on one side and blue with snowflakes or snowmen on the other (so that I can wear it the rest of the winter... which is long in MN) I'm also going to have her make a red and gold on one side, cream and gold on the other side vest.... homeschoolmom
Well... we went shopping today. Our fabric store did not have the blue Charlie Brown fabric (they did have a different blue CB fabric that I did not like as much...) But they did have the red CB one. So, I'm getting two reversible vests-- one with the red CB on one side with black w/multi-colored snowflakes on the other side. The second one is the red and gold holly print above on one side with cream w/gold stars (that are kinda like cross shaped "Stars of Bethlehem" looking, kwim? ) on the other. I promise I won't wear the CB one to Mass on Christmas.
CatherineM
Well, that solves the problem. I'm sewing parachutes today. Recycled ones make really good lining.
homeschoolmom
My friend just dropped off my Charlie Brown Christmas vest! Just in time for 11/11. I love it!
laetitia crucis
As a fellow knitter/crocheter, I think the yarn and needle organizers are a great gift idea! Nice find! Also, the Sherlock Holmes jacket is fabulous!
CatherineM
I found this pattern for a cover for a purse kleenex package. I added a little pocket on the back side that is just big enough for a small travel size of hand sanitizer. Tis the season I guess, as in flu season. All right HSM, let's see pictures.
