mulls
Suppose you meet a random person on the street, and will never see this person again in your life. This person doesn't know anything about anything....but for some reason they ask you how to get to heaven? what would you tell them?

Theologian in Training
Prayer, and that I will pray for them. A similar situation actually happened to me, only she wanted to know why to believe in God, believed herself agnostic (at 17 yrs old) and ended the conversation by telling me that maybe she will see me in the afterlife. I pray for her every night. God Bless
Dave
I'd tell them that Jesus Christ died to save us from our sins and that to get to heaven we must truly believe that He is Lord and live out our faith by persevering in doing good works for the love of Him. I'd also add that it would be necessary to be baptized and to frequent the sacraments, as they are fountains of God's grace. And prayer is also indispensable. How He layed down His life for us, died the most horriable death any human being good die. Tell them they need to be baptized into The Catholic Church, because it is The One Christ Himself founded over 2000 years ago. I would tell them after this to study The Catholic Faith as much as possible. Then I would put them in God's hands, pray for them, let go and let God!!! Plus it would depend on how much time I would have to explain things. God Bless Jason

Hananiah
Suppose you meet a random person on the street, and will never see this person again in your life. This person doesn't know anything about anything....but for some reason they ask you how to get to heaven? what would you tell them?
Believe that Christ is God and that by His death He has turned away the Father's wrath and opened the doors for you to become an adopted son of God. Repent of your sins, and bear fruit which befit this repentance i.e. do works of penance out of love. Then find a priest who will make you an adopted son of God through water Baptism, whereby all your previous sins will be wiped away. After doing this, spend the rest of your life avoiding sin and striving for holiness. Give to the poor, frequent the sacraments which God has instituted to mediate His grace to you, and follow Christ with your whole heart, mind, soul, and strength. As an aside, these actions must be motivated out of love of God and detestation of sin; if they spring from a baser motive such as fear of punishment they will be next to meaningless in the sight of God. If perchance you should fall into serious sin at some point in your life, make haste to confess to a priest, whom Christ has granted the authority to forgive sins in His name. Above all seek to die in a state of friendship with God, for if you do this, you will be admitted to heaven. What you should do right now is pray for yourself, that God may grant you the grace to perform this journey. Once you have been made a servant of God, begin praying for others, for it is not only your own salvation which your actions will affect, but the salvation of everyone around you. A great saint draws a thousand to heaven with him; a great sinner a thousand to hell. God bless you. Edited April 4, 2004 by Hananiah
