CatherineM
I think my principal had my folks on speed dial, although, I'm not sure they had that back then. She definitely had it memorized because of my brothers long before I even started school. We didn't call it detention either. It was called staying after school. I'm fairly sure that I will one day die from white lung disease from breathing all that chalk dust from cleaning erasers.

Brother Adam
You, detention! I gave my first detention today at work.
It's actually an awkward position when I am teaching class because I am the one that my catechists send students to when they get in trouble. I have no one to send them too, so all I can do is make them sit in a hall or call parents. BTW - There is a good chance I will be starting to teach a secular subject at a Catholic school this fall as a second job. Way to go to get me thinking. Brother Adam
When I was a senior our principal considered me and 3 other students the best kids he had in the school. About a month before we finished all four of us decided to skip class and go out to lunch at a local joint. As we were walking back to school through the parking lot he saw us. He was shocked that his best kids would skip class. We told him you just can't go through high school and never skip. He just shook his head and sent us inside and told us never to do it again. Thinking back we should have skipped during lunch before English. Our English teacher would let you sneak in his window as long as you brought him a whopper meal from Burger King. tinytherese
I got detention once. It was over something stupid though. We were required to have our school planners in this one class and it was mandatory that we wrote down what our homework was and the teacher checked it every single day. If we didn't have it even once then we got a day's worth of detention. Well the only day I didn't bring it to class (my first period class at that) I got the detention slip. I was under the impression that we got one warning and that the second time we were caught we'd get it. I was sure wrong. Dang that teacher was strict! Middle school did sure smelled of elderberries.
