Never go to Latin America. A minor hug and kiss on the cheek is almost like a handshake between men and women. I never knew when I should give a kiss and when I should shake a hand.

I had to give hugs on a retreat that I went on.
It was all about feeling good and after you hugged somebody you had to exchange little picese of yarn.

what is so bad about a hug to you?

I don't mind the hug itself, I just hate wondering whether a hug is called for. There's nothing more embarrassing than giving a hug to someone who just wants to shake your hand.

I agree. Unless I know you and want to hug you I will. I am not a huge touchy feely person UNLESS you are a very very close friend or relative.

Another thing I don't get is why girls like to touch other girls hair. I absolutely dislike it. There are only certain people that I am ok with touching my hair. When I had it super long people would come up and touch it or wave it around and I would get so mad. Now that it is shorter people like to brush the back of my hair where I have it flipped up.

ugh, I know what you mean! I have long, curly hair and people like to touch it. OR some people will randomly boing it. I'm just like, wth?

With working for a Church, I'm getting more used to being hugged by people I don't know.

Yeah, it's very common with the Church. I don't mind hugs as much as I mind when they try to pat or rub my belly or when strangers in Church try holding Aaron or taking him from me. Makes me want to knock people out!

Yeah, what is it with people who think they can just "have a turn" holding your baby, like it's a toy or something? I'm not a mom (lol, duh) but I've always found it kinda inconsiderate when people do that.

Anyway, hugs are whatevs... I give them, I receive them. Depends on who it is but I mostly prefer handshakes :idontknow:

see this is what i have a problem with actually.

why is it okay, in a professional setting (i am a professional) to hug a woman you just met, but if i were a guy, you would give me a handshake? i deserve just as much courtesy as a man does. it is professional to give a handshake, not a hug. in any other setting, i would be given a handshake, not a hug.[/rant]

sorry.

I know...I know... It's because it's a Church setting, at least that's what I think. I understand you're a professional, I'm the same, but for some reason if you work for a Church you're supposed to be all touchy feely huggy. For some reason people have it in their mind that if you work for the Church then it's not really a professional job and thus more relaxed and laid back.
