arch, i'm so glad i'm not the only one that doesn't like hugging people i just met. and i don't understand why women are expected to hug, and men can get away with a handshake. i would much rather give someone a handshake (unless it's a close relative or my husband or my children) than hug them. i just don't get it. :idontknow:

I agree. Unless I know you and want to hug you I will. I am not a huge touchy feely person UNLESS you are a very very close friend or relative.

Another thing I don't get is why girls like to touch other girls hair. I absolutely dislike it. There are only certain people that I am ok with touching my hair. When I had it super long people would come up and touch it or wave it around and I would get so mad. Now that it is shorter people like to brush the back of my hair where I have it flipped up.

I don't have that trouble. As big as I am, most women would have to hug me around the waist. There are only a few people who hug me, and they are friends, so I'm willing to lean down when they want a hug.

Marie-Therese

I like hugging, but I don't tend to hug people straightaway when I meet them. My love of showing affection is tempered by an incredibly strong issue with personal space.

Hug me, fine. Touch my face without an express invitation, probably end up with a broken nose. I'm not a usually hostile person, but that is just one of those things with me.

I guess I should expand on what I said. If it is on the street and it was like, "Hi, meet what's her face." I am not likely to hug you. But there are times when I hug complete strangers. There was one lady in the hospital and she was visibly upset. I don't know from what. I don't know why. Working on the cancer floor I could only assume something bad with a family member. I stopped her and asked if there was something I could do, if she needed kleenex. She said, "No I am fine." And then she looked at me and said, "Just could you hug me." So I did. Sometimes touch and hugging is the only medicine I can give so I can do that.

Never go to Latin America. A minor hug and kiss on the cheek is almost like a handshake between men and women. I never knew when I should give a kiss and when I should shake a hand.
