Nihil Obstat

My free book is called The Case for the Real Jesus: A Journalist Investigates Current Attacks on the Identity of Christ, by Lee Strobel.
Has anyone read it? I was just hoping for a quick overview of things to think about while I read it, because he is an evangelical. Unfortunately at first glance I couldn't find a good Catholic review of it online.

It's written well. It keeps you captivated and wanting to read more.

In the end, you should feel better than when you began. I did (when I read it years back.)

I've not read that one but I have read some of his others, the Case for Faith and the Case for Christ, which were pretty good. I hope someday he becomes Catholic and writes one called the Case for the Church. ^_^ I think eventually he will.

It's probably got some errant theology, but overall, he's pretty solid. At least he was when I read the others, which was a few years back. He actually ended up writing them, I believe, because he was agnostic, and in researching about Christianity, he came to believe it, and decided to explain his reasoning with the books for others.

Marie-Therese

I haven't read that specific one but I also have read The Case for Christ and The Case for Christmas...I think there is another one of his I read that I am not recalling.

He has a pleasant writing style and a fantastic story. I think his books are valuable, perhaps not for stringent theological study, but simply for the vigor with which he presents his case.

Encouraging words. :) I'm always a bit dubious, as you can tell, but maybe it'll be a good read after all.
Today was my first day at university orientation, and the Campus for Christ club was giving away freebie packs. Inside they had a little book bag, a New International version New Testament and this Strobel book. I'm glad it wasn't a KJV version, so that was a nice way to start out. :)

NIV is worse than the KJV :P

I have thoroughly enjoyed Strobel's texts, especially his detailed medical explanation of what happens during a crucifixion. It gave me a new appreciation for the agony suffered on the cross because I'm an idiot.

I believe that medical explanation was given much earlier on by a French writer. I believe it's called A Physician at Calvary by Pierre Barbet. Dr. Miravalle made a point to read it each Lent in his classes.

Rats. Here I was entertaining the delusion that the KJV and NKJV were the only bad versions. Now I'll never be happy again. :sadwalk:

Is it bad enough to want to burn? :saint:

I've discovered that if it's used by Protestants, it's probably a variation of the KJV.

I figured Protestants only used the King James or New King James. Is NIV based on the KJV or something?
They're trying to fool me by disguising it. :annoyed:

It's ok though. Better than ok in fact. We have a Dominican chaplain, and he says Mass and hears confessions every day, plus Adoration on Fridays. I can make probably two out of the five daily Masses, and at least one of the confession times.
Definitely better than what I expected... I was expecting a lay chaplain who was basically Protestant. :P

It's quite neat. There's a multifaith centre with chaplains from Catholicism, Protestantism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Judaism... I think that's it. They have services all week long, discussions, drop in lunches, open doors... I'm very impressed.

Pretty good for a secular school, eh? :))

Sounds like the Chaplain Corps in the US military.

Probably somewhat similar. :)

My friend got a free Christain book and is wandering into dangerous waters.
If it not have been for me he will consider Christanity more than Catholism to be the true religion. Every time I see him no matter how hard each one of us try we alwaysend up in a religious discussion.

I'm trying to get him to go deeper into his faith (Catholism) and go to Mass every week(he goes when they feel like they have to go).

I'm always leery because it seems like non-Catholics do it more than we do.

We should fix that though.
