Mrs. Bro. Adam
It seems that everything has stemmed off from the Catholic church (new religions), and I'm not saying that to be deragotory (SP?), but that's just what I've noticed....Hmm.... Carrie
That is pretty scary. The word Santeria must have lots of different meanings because where I'm from someone who is involved with Santeria means that the person is involved with demonic witchcraft, calling up evil spirits, and all sorts of scary things like that. The people who I've encountered who practice Santeria weren't Catholic at all. When you hear someone is involved with practicing Santeria, you stay far away from them. It's crazy. [/quote] Carrie: A person who is Santerian is not Catholic, although they may have fallen from the church. Santeria includes worshipping of the Saints. A lot of perversions, like cmom said, but what scares me most is the amount of secrecy involved in this particular religion! Edited April 3, 2004 by Mrs. Bro. VeraMaria
Well, you go to South Miami, and you see people selling potions, charms, dead animals....for their spells and sacred drumming and ceremonies and stuff. They try to sell you all this stuff to protect you from "evil spirits". And all other types of bizarre stuff. Tourists come and think it's "so cute" in a way, because they group it under "ethnic traditions" or something.... I find it scary...

homeschoolmom
Don't kid yourself about it's only being in the South... Carp like this is everywhere... maybe not Santeria, per se... but sacrifices and stuff... Very common in the midwest... Heaven help us...
theculturewarrior
Santeria is huge where I live. They sell the candles in the grocery stores down here. There are often (well, relatively often) murder cases involving curanderas and brujos.
