Hi. I just went to confession yesterday, and a question came to mind after my penance. I mean absolutely NO disrespect by asking this question, either, I'm just wondering...

To whom does the Pope confess his sins?

Thank you in advance for your answers, and God Bless.

I'm not sure about the present Pope but in the past the Capuchins have had the duty to hear the confession of the pope and have also had the title "Preacher to the Papal Household" which means the particular Friar preaches a sermon usually on Fridays in Lent and Advent to the Pope and his household. The present Preacher is Fr Raniero Cantalamessa, but I don't thing he also doubles as the Pope's confessor as in the past.

Fr Raniero's website is:http://www.cantalamessa.org/en/index.php]Preacher :D

This isn't a complete answer, but its a story that ties in with your question. God bless.

I once heard a TRUE story (I hope I tell it accurately) about a priest in Rome who had fallen away and eventually became just a bum on the street. He used to go to a certain church in Rome to get free food and stuff. One day he was going to get some food and a priest came up to him and said, "are you so-and-so?" He replied that he was and the priest told him that someone wanted to see him. So this homeless former-priest gets in the car and they drive off. It turns out that it was Pope John Paul II who wanted to speak with him. He ended up having dinner with the Pope!! After dinner the Pope asked everyone to leave the room except this fallen away, homeless priest. After they all left the guy asked the pope what the deal was and he said, "I want you to hear my confession". The guy was like, "what!! I'm fallen away, I'm not a priest anymore!". But the Pope said, "you are a priest forever." So the priest heard the Pope's confession and gave him absolution. After that this priest, in tears, asked the Pope to hear his confession. By the end of the night the Pope had reinstated the priest and made him associate pastor of the parish that he used to get free food from.
