Marie-Therese
I am hanging onto the Christian Prayer single volume breviary until I see more how the liturgical reforms play out, because I know if they do institute a changed liturgical translation then the breviary should follow. My question is about the OOR. I don't have the current St. Joseph's guide but don't really need it, I can find my way around the readings without needing the page numbers for reference. However, I can't for the life of me discern the schedule for the readings they have included. Following the 2-year cycle of scripture listed in the back is pretty straightforward, but then they also have biblical and non-biblical/hagiographic readings, which have no discernible order. Can anyone give me a hand with this? I've intentionally avoided the Office of Readings for this reason, but I really would like to use it. All other hours I celebrate with no issue. Thanks in advance!
morostheos
I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think I remember a priest telling me once that those readings have no particular order (except that they're organized by season). You just pick and choose what you want to read when. The St. Joseph's Guide has suggestions I think, but they aren't "official" readings for that day. Lil Red
+J.M.J.+ i found when i had the Christian Prayer (now use 4 volume), that OOR was almost impossible for me to do. if you are dead set on trying it, i would get the St. Joseph's Guide to help. Divine Mercy 9999
Doesn't universalis have them every day?
They do It's a good site. I've been trying to get the hang of the Divine Office for a while. Universalis seems to work the best for me . I am trying to start the Little Office of the Blessed VIrgin Mary.
Marie-Therese
I'm not a huge fan of universalis...I mean, it is great for reference, but I have a hard time using a computer for the office. There is something that contributes much more to recollection when you have a book in your hand. I deeply love the Little Office. As a matter of fact, when I pray the little hours during the day, I pray them from the Little Office and not the Breviary. I use Lauds and Vespers from the Breviary, and I vary whether I do compline from the Breviary or the Little Office.
zunshynn
I like Universalis, but it is hard for me to pray without a breviary, at the computer... especially because I can't focus, and am sooo tempted to check PM. haha... Really, that's actually pretty pathetic. Plus, for me, it has been hard to get used to the different translation. Because I'm so familiar with the US translation, I get lost.
