Archaeology cat
Gar! I hate it when gender-neutral language is used. In any context, really. I also got irritated when I would receive weekly updates from babycentre when I was pregnant, and it would use the feminine as the default pronoun. TeresaBenedicta
I get annoyed when I hear people at Mass say, "Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.." or "It is right to give God thanks and praise" or "for the good of the Church.." All replacing the masculine pronouns. Seriously, people?

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam
Personally, I find this trend extends beyond simply these pronouns. When one feels so strongly to change the words of the Mass, obviously it is because they perceive God differently than they feel the words reveal. I think this has to do a lot with this way that people perceive God's Mercy and Justice specifically. I had always heard God was a God of Justice and Love but this Love and Mercy was always stressed to me. I mean it is good that God is merciful or else we'd all be hosed but it irks me when God's Mercy is stressed and His Justice is only given lip service. I want to hear of God's great Justice too. This is why I love the psalms. God is described as strong and a protector and defends his people from injustice. These traits of God are what I want in my life. They are how I relate to Him insofar as I see my masculinity as coming from God's Nature. I want to hear of my God who balances perfect Justice and perfect Mercy and I think the Psalms do this well. I also think we do a great disservice to men when such a perception of God where His mercy is stressed over Justice flourishes. I mean it seems to me that a lot of guys seem to already think religion is kind of a thing for women but this just seems to reinforce that idea. I mean don't get me wrong, God is obviously not a boy's name and everyone should be merciful and Just like God but come on, why can't we just use gender neutral pronouns and quit drawing attention to ourselves by trying to change the approved words of the Mass. You said "When one feels so strongly to change the words of the Mass, obviously it is because they perceive God differently than they feel the words reveal." which to me says that you don't approve of changing that words of the Mass. Maybe I misunderstood you, but I think that's what you are saying there. But then you say "why can't we just use gender neutral pronouns and quit drawing attention to ourselves by trying to change the approved words of the Mass." To the best of my knowledge the approved Mass does not use gender neutral pronouns. I'm sorry I can't quote anything concrete at this time. I will look into it more and see if I can find you a direct quote. Here's what I did find. "Moreover, in this translation, Liturgiam authenticam says, the greatest care is to be taken so that the translations express the traditional Christological, typological and spiritual sense, and manifest the unity and the inter-relatedness of the two Testaments. (LA §41) In particular, translations using so-called “inclusive” language are not acceptable, in part because they obscure the Christological interpretation of some passages, especially in the case of some Psalms." That quote was taken from here Here is an article on the whole issue I will get back to you ASAP. Jesus was a male. We cannot just use neutral gender because we would be changing how God revealed himself to us. tinytherese
I remember when one of my Methodist friends said that she liked to think of God as female. I pointed out to her the prayer, "Our FATHER." Then she said, "I'd like to think of it is as Our Mother."
MissyP89
It's worth noting that two of the three persons of the Blessed Trinity are, in fact, lacking in any sort of genitalia. However, I agree with the majority here. Jesus was a man. The Bible uses masculine language, and we are a Faith based in the Bible. 2+2=4.

tinytherese
If you think about it, it wouldn't make sense to call the first member of the Holy Trinity feminine. Jesus has a mother already and her name is Mary.
