It makes me real mad that there are no famous, Catholic hymnists - at least, "modern" style hymnists (think the 'traditional' protestant hymns).
I mean, Wesley did alright, and so did all of his proddy buds, but why shouldn't we have something all our own?

Perhaps I'll write a contemporary traditional hymnal so we can have something all our own.

There are contemporary Catholic hymnists. I can't think of any titles off hand, but I've heard some good ones. There's still people writing in the line of the Church.

"Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence" is a modern hymn (albeit set to an ancient text).

Here we go. This is where I win. *prepares hands for extreme typing*
O God Beyond All Praising
Holy God We Praise Thy Name
Lead Me Lord
Christ Be Our Light
Gentle Woman
Here I Am Lord
You are Mine
I Sing the Mighty Power of God
I Will Be Your God
Ecce Panis Angelorum
Panis Angelicus
Behold the Lamb
Taste and See (a specific one)
Let all Mortal Flesh Keep Silence
I Am the Bread of Life
Holy is His Name
Lady of Fatima
Lourdes Hymn
Bring Flowers of the Rarest
Our Lady of Mount Carmel

It just goes on and on and on

A modern hymn set to ancient text? How does that work? (A text is set to music, and a hymn is set to a hymn tune...I don't think a text can be set to text.)

Maximilianus

'Veni Creator Spiritus'

The Marine's version of the Navy Hymn, which is "Eternal Father, Strong to Save" but with a shout out to Jarheads.

"Eternal Father, grant, we pray
To all Marines, both night and day,
The courage, honor, strength, and skill
Their land to serve, thy law fulfill;
Be thou the shield forevermore
From every peril to the Corps."
--J.E. Seim, 1966

Here I Am, Lord
On Eagles Wings
Christ Be Our Light
and many others. I'll probably be adding more later when they come to me :)
