Skinzo
The Index was never really comprehensive. Nietzsche, for example, never made the index. St. Faustina however, did make it. They still expected you as a general rule to avoid that which was obviously heretical. As a practical matter I don't see how you could revive it and make it comprehensive now. With the proliferation of porn, etc., you are still going to have to draw the line and ask people to avoid that which is obviously anti-Christian. Otherwise, you will have a vast and beleaguered bureaucracy trying to review everthing in print. Besides, what about other media? Are you going to include CD's, DVD's, web pages(no matter how obscure), online books, etc.? I like the idea of book reviews for the ones that have some impact, as others have suggested. Of course, as other posters have noted, being "banned" by the Catholic Church sells. I once worked for the Catholic League and we would work hard against plays like Christopher Durang's "Sister Mary Ignatius Explains it all for You" . The media and theater owners would eagerly agree to discuss the issue with us and use it as part of their advertising campaign. Before long, I began to think we would be better off just ignoring some things. S.
