What do you think "luck" is?

Do you believe it?

personally, i'm over the whole business about luck. if somebody says "i got in a car accident, i'm lucky to be alive," i say "no, you were blessed to be alive," or something to that effect.

i do wonder about the small things, however. like if a i toss up a ridiculous shot while playing ball and it hits the rim and the backboard and the rim and goes in, is that lucky? i wouldn't call it a blessing, especially if somebody else loses the game due to that shot.

i don't know, it's a lighthearted topic, i thought we could have some fun with it.

I'm all about this. All goodness must be attributed to God and I think everything happens for a reason because God knows best.

Whole-heartedly believing in/relying on "luck" and "chance" is a little bit supersticious, eh?

I am PREDESTINED not to have any luck...

[as an odd aside, when we go out to a chinese resturant I'm the ONLY one that won't 'do' fortune cookies...they think I'm weird ... guess I am.

And the Witch of Endor is always on my mind... ]

I wonder what Jesus would think about the Urim and Thummim, sort of like Jewish Vegas dice ... ]

I think there are coincidences which I guess you could call luck. For example, if I'm playing cards with my friends and get a good hand, I'm probably just going to call it luck, meaning that it was a nice coincidence. I don't think God is overly concerned about my Hearts hand.

When ever some one says to me "good luck", I say that I do not need for I have the Grace of God.

Then one of my good friends told me that she means by luck that by which you are blessed with Grace...

Still Fortune was a pagan goddess that explained away free choice and took away meaning from suffering.

I like to dwell on the fact that we all are predestined to Heaven and all we have to do is give a yes. Yes is so much easier then no in the long run!

My Whole heart is consecrated to God per sancta Maria!

Luck implies randomness. Well, there's no randomness about things that happen. Everything happens for a reason. Whether God causes something to happen or allows it to happen, God always has His reasons for it.

Does "EVERYTHING" happen for a reason? For example, does me accidentally misspelling example (which I went back and fixed) have a reason? Does me getting delt three Aces in a friendly poker game have a reason? Etc.

Well, misspelling "example" happened because you were careless. Getting dealt 3 aces in a poker game ... hmmmm ... good question ... :(

So could carelessness be a form of "bad luck" meaning something unfortunate that happens for no particular reason and without divine intervention?

I don't believe that people have luck. I think that fortunate things can happen to people, but it's not necessarily luck.

On the other hand, I'm of Irish heritage, and sometimes I have felt that luck is on my side! ;)

God bless. :)

Isn't it the Chaos theory that states that everything happens for a reason and starts a chain reaction that effects everything else? A bird flying over China effects the stock market?
