I would be more than happy if the local drug dealers, crackheads and young punks still wet behind the ears stopped carrying weapons, but I am not holding my breath. But until then I believe in protecting those I hold dear in whatever way I can.

Fighting fire with fire never worked out well.[/quote] Actually it does work if you are quicker on the draw. The problem with outlawing guns is a) it's unconstitutional (thanks Supreme Court!) and b) then it means that all the law-abiding citizens do not have guns. The small minority are, shall we say, less than concerned about the legality of owning guns. My husband says a well-armed society is a polite society. I think that is true to a point. If you know that the house you rob might be occupied by a well-trained, well-armed homeowner, perhaps you'll think twice before breaking in. That being said, gun ownership implies responsibility, and I think that's something a lot of people don't take as seriously as they should. Getting a gun and then not getting trained on how to use it, and then practicing regularly, is kinda silly, in my book. It also means being very careful about using the safety and keeping guns secure so that they aren't accessible to untrained individuals. I also think some people have the wrong idea about using guns. Guns are a deadly weapon, and if you pull one in self-defense, you had better be prepared to use it to kill (which in the case of self-defense or other-defense is permissible, morally). If you don't think you could do that, then don't pull the gun. A gun introduced in the hands of a person hesitant to use it is far more likely to end up as a weapon used against that person. I think sometimes people get guns and then think they'll just use them to scare off potential attackers, but that shouldn't be the mindset. In my opinion. Basically those who use guns for crimes or what not will still have the means to obtain a gun. Take the clause out and there will still be a black market
