Tiffany Watkins, 20, on Wednesday was stabbed in the chest, back and arms, detective Sgt. Brad Berner said. She was undergoing surgery Wednesday afternoon, Berner said. Her ex-boyfriend, Richard Bishop, 24, was charged with murder and attempted murder. He was being held in the Wayne County Jail with no bond set. Wayne County Prosecutor Dave Kolger said Indiana statute allows a murder charge if a person kills a fetus that has reached viability. Viability was defined as the ability to live outside the womb, Kolger said. Berner said police were told that Watkins was nearly seven months pregnant. Police said Watkins was awakened by Bishop. He told officers he wanted to talk to her about the pregnancy, police said. They said they were not sure why he attacked her. Watkins' 23-month-old daughter was also in the house, but was not injured, Berner said. She was placed in protective custody.
