Resurrexi
Do you really think that St. Malachy authored the "prophecies"? There is not a lot of data which supports the belief that he wrote them.

Traditionally they are attributed to St. Malachy, however the content of the prophecies is what interests me. For all I care a peasant could have penned them, and they would still remain significant to me. Edited July 1, 2009 by kafka
Resurrexi
If the "prophecies" were written in the 16th century, as is thought likely, more than half of the "prophecies" would already have been fulfilled.

The accuracy of the prophetic list and the heavy emphasis of the last Pope on the list are striking to me. If someone wants to dismiss them that is fine too. I could then move to Italy, and the Pope would be my civil ruler.
Gregorius
I personally don't care when the end times are, I know God will have me anytime He wants. Though I do hope I am prepared when that time comes! And personally, I don't think the Pope needs the entire Papal States back. All he needs is to be free from secular control, and the current Vatican City does that just fine. Besides, I don't know about future Popes, but I doubt Benedict XVI would be the type of guy to want civil power, cool as it would be for him to be a ruler. I think the worst thing about it is that people who really believe that the end of the world is near just give up and think "what's the point, its all about to end anyway"
Vasilius Konstantinos
There should have been a Pope Fabulous in history. Anyways, December 21st, 2012. Interesting. The Mayans never said it the end of the world but a new era. Oddly this era would end with some natural disasters, which may or may not happen. Either way its not really a prophesy if its a "meh, it could happen" type of written calendar. After all its not as accurate as some people have claimed considering that natural disasters and seasons, portions in history never happened for decades at a time.
