Hassan
I recently have discovered a website called Grammar Girl. Grammar Girl gives weekly grammar tips. I have discovered, though, that these ought not to be called helpful tips, but rather deceitful tricks. Not only does she permit you to be used as an indefinite pronoun, but she also allows split infinitives. Though trying to help her readers improve their writing, Grammar Girl actually is bastardizing our language.
What is it a bastardization of? The archaic syntax which itself was a bastardization of Old English? And what are you doing when you, I assume, say "you go" rather than "thou goeth"? kafka
I like Latin but I dont think it is sacred or above any other language. In fact it is a dead language, that is why it is theologically useful. Because it is dead it's use evades ambiguity. I'm all for good grammar, but not grammar policing. The only grammar policing I do is correcting 'have went' to 'have gone.' Besides- slicing and dicing the english language up is fun. Poetry suspends the rules of grammar in pursuit of expressing the unfathomable. Edited June 26, 2009 by kafka
