The titulus affixed to our Lord's cross was written in three languages; Latin was one of those languages.
See? Latin is evil.

Our Lord spoke Aramaic and sang Hebrew. The New Testament was written in Greek. If there is such a thing as "holiness" in languages, Latin would come fourth.
Exactly. Latin is a pathetic language.
... and I think it's only sacred in the West.
I say we boycott this abomination and get with the times.
Erase it. Destroy it. Kill whatever keeps it alive.
Jail those who teach it.
Silence those who favor it.

Mistress?
I recently have discovered a website called Grammar Girl. Grammar Girl gives weekly grammar tips. I have discovered, though, that these ought not to be called helpful tips, but rather deceitful tricks. Not only does she permit you to be used as an indefinite pronoun, but she also allows split infinitives.

Though trying to help her readers improve their writing, Grammar Girl actually is bastardizing our language. :ohno:
Maybe you could provide some examples since I think only one person in this thread besides you actually knows what you're talking about...

Now to that I don't subscribe :) I'm a linguistic pacifist.

I think it's cool because in my Rite it has a long history. But I don't think it's holy. It just used to be the vulgar language ;)

According to Pope John VIII, Latin is one of the three principal languages. That means it cannot be only the fourth holiest earthly language. :)

It sounds like someone is mad because his Latin teacher gave him a bad grade.

I hope it wasn't dogma, because then I'd be a heretic. I prefer the original languages of Scripture and the tongue Our Lord and Our Lady spoke at home to the main language of the pagan country our earliest religious leaders settled down in.

So - Aramaic one, Greek two, Hebrew three, Latin four, Dutch five. I'll call Pope Benedict to have this sorted out.

mistress = feminine of master. Only in recent times it became slang for... well, you know.

And what's with the Latin hating? Sheesh. Sacrosanctum Concillium (sp? sry, Rexi) says we should have some Latin in our liturgies. Better learn to like it.

I visited a liberal synagogue last Tuesday. We were given a tour and they explained stuff about the history and customs etc. Their kids start learning Hebrew when they're three and 90% of their liturgy is in Hebrew. And the scripture rolls don't have vowels (although the prayer books do nowadays), you have to know what's there if it's your turn to sing from them (there's no notes either, they chant from memory).

I was thinking, what if we just started teaching our kids Latin from age 3 onwards, and use Latin as the primary language in the entire Roman rite Church? All translation problems solved!

Heh. I have a friend who has been speaking to his child in Latin earlier than 3. I guess he's hoping to make him bi-lingual... like, he would only speak to him in Latin. The mother would speak in English.

Actually, I think the Grammar Girl is spot-on on the 2-3 articles I've read, courtesy of the link.

I didn't know that you aren't allowed to actually do those things.

While I think latin is not the pinnacle of linguistic development in human history, even I think you may be going a bit far here - but it IS funny.
