Citing Sources?

Brother Adam

I hate citing sources for papers. Do these look "right" for Chicago style? I'm always unsure about the more complex ones like the Summa.

Catechetical Lectures, ch. 18; in William A. Jurgens, The Faith of the Early Fathers: Vol. 1 (Collegeville, Minn: Liturgical Press, 1970), 358.

Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologica. English translation by Fathers of the English Dominican Province (New York: Benziger Bros), Ia IIae Q. 17 art. I.

Frank Sheed, Theology and Sanity (San Francisco: Ignatius Press, 1993), 412.

Stromateis, ch. 2; in William A. Jurgens, The Faith of the Early Fathers: Vol. 1 (Collegeville, Minn.: Liturgical Press, 1970), 182.

Pope Benedict XVI, Saved in Hope (Spe Salvi). (San Francisco: Ignatius Press, 2008), 8.

Josè Casciaro, ed. Michael Adams, trans. The Navarre Bible: Gospel & Acts. (Dublin: Four Courts Press, 200), 499.

Scott Hahn. First Comes Love (New York: Doubleday, 2002) 86.

Jean Danièlou. The Bible and the Liturgy. (Notre Dame: University of Notre Dame, 1956), 263.

Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger. Spirit of the Liturgy (San Francisco: Ignatius Press, 2000), 125.

Congregation for the Clergy. General Directory for Catechesis (Washington, DC: USCCB, 1997), 16.

United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. National Directory for Catechesis (Washington, DC: USCCB, 2005), 229.
Ibid., 91-93.

They look correct to me Adam. The only thing that might need to be look into is the Aquinas one. Did you use 2 or more of the volumes? or did you just use one of the volumes? If you used only one of the volumes I would site specifically which volume you used, ie Vol 3. I used that set or one similar for a paper of mine and I had to specifically site which volumes I used, unless I sited all 5.

Brother Adam

Are you referring to the works cited or the footnote? In the footnote I mention the volume: Ia IIae - but not in the works cited.

They look fine to me. For what it's worth, I was the lead writing fellow at a college for a few years, the managing editor of the same college's newspaper, and on the editorial staff of an international literary journal. I will add that I've seen articles of the Summa cited simply as "Q13, A2".

Yes, I used italics. I wasn't going to format every title for the post. The paper is on Scott Hahn's desk so we will see what happens! :P
