My significant other just went through the Fourth Degree. I was really pleasantly surprised by how devout -strongly pro-family, pro-life, pro-marriage, and pro-magisterium in every respect- I found the group and leadership of the some 500 men and their wives to be. I must admit, I have a new-found love for the Knights! And, I admit that the fact that each and every man, who spoke, beautifully thanked and honored his wife was also a big part of that. What I saw was men being men.

I also was very impressed because as a whole, they seem to have truly stuck to the founding of the order -Charity, Unity, Fraternity.

:pope: I know what you're thinking: But, V, haven't you heard? But, no, somehow, the fact that Pope John Paul II called the Knights, "The Strong Right Arm of the Church" didn't quite sink in before... :scratchhead:

I know that in some areas, the Knights have become a bit gray without many new members (Vatican II fallout), but it seems like there are small new pockets of young orthodox men emerging within the group.

SO, MY QUESTION TO YOU:

1. ARE YOU (see poll question)

2. WHY OR WHY NOT?

I'm a third degree Knight at a college council. We usually get 5-10 new members each year. We try to be active in the parish and on campus, but that can be kinda difficult because of groups such as FOCUS, parish council, etc. College students can only volunteer so much.

I am a 4th degree Knight.

I have found the experience to be moving, rewarding, humbling, and spiriutually beneficial.

My husband isn't a Knight. In large part because they don't exist here. ;) There is a Knights of St Columba here, but I don't know as much about it.

I actually got involved with it to get a discount on my reception hall... It's probably the most selfish reason I could think of... either that or the insurance.

No. Cause my wife is not Catholic and I am reluctant to spend even more time away from her in Church-y things than I do now. I struggle constantly with remembering that marriage is my first vocation and the various ministries in the parish in which I am involved come second to her.

So...pray for her conversion so I can be kaniggit and carry a sword and wear a feathery hat!

My husband recently made his fourth degree in May.

When he joined our local Knights council, he was the youngest member by at least 15 years. In the four years following, there have been an influx of younger men, and the council is growing! His council was rated the top one in Florida a year or so ago, based on their charitable activities, amount of money raised to support those studying for the priesthood, local pregnancy centers, the Special Olympics, and other local charities supporting the mentally handicapped.

Their magazine "Columbia" is completely pro-life and faithful to the Magisterium. It's an honor to be part of such an organization. Plus their life insurance is awesome.

Not married. Have no husband that is a Knight, but just wanted to say how impressed I have been with them. They are so involved in the pro-life movement in our area, and always have their hand in everything, helping and volunteering. Two good friends of mine are knights (one fourth, other just joined), and I am just very very impressed by them. I was a little put off for a while by the apparent secrecy of some things, but I guess that is the way with all communities, institutions, orders, congregations.. whatever. All have some things they keep to themselves. So, I'm just back to being very impressed! :D
