southern california guy
Friday night I rolled over in bed, there seemed to be a "click" in my ear, and suddenly the room started spinning. It made me sick to my stomach... I was going to go ice skating Saturday, but I decided to give it a raincheck. I'm taking a skating class and the instructor told me on Wednesday that she thinks that I'm getting good enough to take a hockey class and try hockey. But on Wednesday this poor little girl -- who's actually a pretty good figure skater -- did this jump up in the air and spin around thing, and somehow fell on the ice and split her head open.. People rushed over to help her but didn't seem that alarmed after checking her out. However, if you split your head open that gotta be bad for you. A friend told me that "Dimetapp" (An antihistimine) cures vertigo. I took some yesterday -- and it worked! But halfway through the night, last night, I rolled over onto my left side and woke to find the room spinning again... So I guess that I should take it before I go to bed. I have no idea why Dimetapp at least controls vertigo but it does make you feel sleepy and tired.. Have any of you guys had experiences with vertigo? I want to go ice skating, but I don't want to split my head open on the ice.. Of course I'm not going to try anything crazy like those jump in the air and spin around things. alicemary
Do not take any more of this medication, it is about the worst thing you could possibly take for this. You need to be seen by a doctor, and I mean tommorrow. Vertigo is common, but you must know the source. It could be as simple as an ear infection, blood pressure issues, or positional. Do not take any chance with this, get it thoroughly checked out. Are you on any medication, especially for blood pressure? AS to the skater, how foolish can people be. Of course she should have been checked out. Sometimes a bleed into the head may take hours to show symptoms, and then it is often too late. Never, ever play with symptoms pretaining to the head, make sure that you are seen quickly.
whatsup
vertigo can be a precursor to meniers disease make sure they test you for that.
Nihil Obstat
Better safe than sorry. I'd see a doctor. Of course... popping over to see a doctor is a heck of a lot more expensive in the States than it is in Canada.
CatherineM
I get this sometimes. I had a head injury, and it is common to have little breaks in the little bones in there, and they sometimes float into the wrong canal, get stuck and mess up the inner ear. Mine can sometimes get really bad if I have a respiratory infection. I used to take anti-vert. That a prescription med, but frankly all it did was make me go to sleep. Now the doctor can do this procedure on me. You kind of lay with your head off the table. They turn your head a series of different directions, and it allows the little bones to clear. Kind of like one of those marble games where you keep tilting it until the marble goes in the hole. I forget what it is called, but most ER ear/nose/throat attendings have been trained in it. southern california guy
vertigo can be a precursor to meniers disease make sure they test you for that.
It is "positional" vertigo. I only get it when I lie on my left side. And I am a little suspicious that it is somehow related to a chiropractic adjustment I got on Friday. However this Meniere's disease is interesting. I'm not on any medication of any sort and I know that I have excellent health because I get regular physicals as a truck driver (Just local now!). But I think that you're probably right. I should go and see a doctor. However the "Childrens Dimetapp" works so well -- and it is just cold and flu medicine -- that I think I will take some tonight before I go to bed. cmotherofpirl
Did you have a cold or sniffles recently? All it takes is one drop of liquid to squeeze into the labyrinth where balance is controlled. You need to see an MD for a diagnosis and positional treatment. My son gets this everytime he gets a respiratory illness. However if your vision is affected or any parts of your body feels out of sync, get someone to drive you to ER immediately.

StColette
See a doctor! It could be something simple like an ear infection or resp. infection (as Cmom mentioned) but you don't want these things going unchecked. Also if you had a chiropractic adjustment and this started happened afterward I would have it looked at by a doctor.
