Scapulars are miniature versions of the scapulars worn by monks, friars, etc. They show allegiance to a particular order or saint are sacramentals.

You should look into the Brown Scapular and pray about if you should wear it, it is phat. It is a scapular given to us by Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.

The Brown Scapular is probably the most popular, but there are others as well, signifying different orders, etc.

Scapulars are the long robes worn by monks and friars over their tunics. Different orders have different colors. Over time, secular Christians wanted to show devotion to a certain monastic or mendicant saint and or the order, and wanted to do certain things to be associated with it, so they also wore the robes, which got smaller and smaller until they became the little scapulars you see today.

Monks and friars still wear the full size kind, though...most of them, anyway...grrrrrr...I hate it when they don't...

I do, wear my full length scapular that is, and so do all my brothers. They are blessed when we take our vows, and represent our vows to us every day. Problem is, because mine is white, it's a real pain when you have to eat something with tomatos in them!!!!!!! :D
What are Scapulars? I know what they look like, I just don't know what they actually do.
The Brown Scapular was given to mankind by Mary. If you wear it when you die, you will go to heaven no matter what.

Thats not true. Read a little more about the scapular before you make statements like that.

The scapular is like a gift from God, HE gave it to Mary to give to us.

dairygirls main error is "no matter what" because that has never been believed about the scapular. since St. Simon Stock it's always been about wearing it devoutly ;)
