BG45
Personally, I think Colbert is more faithful to the Church than he lets on. When he says "Presume away" in the NPR interview, I think it's pretty clear that the interviewer made a false presumption.
I agree, it's no fun being a "Catholic" on that show if you really are out of line with the Church's teachings. Once he went into the entire Nicene Creed from memory at rapid fire pace on a guy without glancing over at a teleprompter. The audience applauded more than normal even. He ripped some pro-choice guy's book apart once, but I don't know if it was due to the blatantly inaccurate or his opinion on being pro-choice or not. My personal fav moment on Colbert wasn't religious though, it was when he and Mike Huckabee were discussing Huck's presidential campaign strategy by playing air hockey with the states. In the last election, before interviewing Bob Barr -- who he had on a few times -- he said before the interview "full disclosure: I am libertarian." (small "l" or big "L"?) He also stated as much during an interview with Ron Paul. Edited May 29, 2009 by Lounge Daddy

Paddington
I wonder what it's like to know the Nicene Creed...by heart! And, to rip apart peoples' books, including a blatantly inaccurate pro-choice one. And to hate bears. LF and BG, What about his words in the interview? They don't sound Catholic. This is not a judgement on his conscience, but rather a criticism of publically associating him with orthodoxy. It's nothing personal with you guys. But still it is on like Donkey Kong. If you come up with a refutation, I will apologize to you, you, whoever and Colbert. The bear-hating thing bothers me - it should bother anybody who has to choose between Colbert and Paddington/Yogi/Corduroy/Pooh/KungFuPanda/GentleBen/BrotherBear/GummiBears/CareBears/ManyOthers. Also, what bothers me is a personal situation that I was in once (way too much context necessary. "You had to have been there." And some other places. ), where my best friend and I were prosletyzed by a zealous Catholic who downplayed important Catholic doctrine yet name-dropped Colbert and even Seth MacFarlane. Colbert is "cool." Catholicism is not. The coolest thing about Catholicism to me is that it isn't "cool." Which is pretty cool. AFAIK, Colbert is just a likeable rich guy who indirectly helps the "Party of Death" get votes and hasn't shown that he believes the same as you do. If he indeed has "straightened the record," I will apologize in this thread, then protect his name accordingly. Peace, Paddington

fides quarens intellectum
During the elections and in the months after, he came off as pretty Liberal to me. i don't buy the Libertarian thing, but then, i quit watching his show because i was tired of how Liberal he'd become, so i could be wrong.
