Lil Red
+J.M.J.+ would anyone be interested in joining me in reading some of the Pope's encyclicals or other letters, addresses, homilies, etc? I am hoping a large enough group of us would be interested, including some of our members with theology degrees/backgrounds. although i've already read Spe Salvi, i wouldn't mind reading it again. i've started Deus Caritas Est (but am not far into it). anyone interested and any suggestions for reading are welcome. thoughts on what to read: Spe Salvi Deus Caritas Est Sacramentum Caritatis -any of his homilies/letters/addresses from his trip to the U.S. or other trips -any of his writings as Cardinal Ratzinger, writing as prefect for the CDF a good directory is www.papalencyclicals.net. edited: added poll
puellapaschalis
Count me in, although in a few weeks I'm going on hols and won't be internetted for about three weeks. Hope I can still take part though - it's be nice to be able to discuss these things in English and not have to deal with translation issues in my head
Thy Geekdom Come
I'm in the middle of reading Witness to Hope, but I'd be willing to graze over such a study and provide some input if/when I have something of value to say.
tinytherese
I'm in the middle of reading Witness to Hope, but I'd be willing to graze over such a study and provide some input if/when I have something of value to say.
I read that in my junior year of high school. I've never read a book that thick before. During freetime in my english class I took that book out of my backpack and my classmates were in awe of the size of that thing. Are there any helpful websites for studying encyclicals in cliff notes or sparknotes form?
Era Might
I'm definitely interested. I would also like to read older Encyclicals (e.g., Pope Leo XIII).

Brother Adam
If I didn't have so much stinkin' stuff to do for my MA I'd be all over this. I can't wait for the day that I get to read theology & philosophy that I want to again.

puellapaschalis
I suggest either Spe Salvi or Sacramentum Caritatis. Just to throw that out there
the lords sheep
I'm definitely in. I'd love to start with Spe Salvi, but only because I haven't read it yet (ridiculous, I know!)
