It reminds me of Shrek 3, where Arty runs away as fast as he can yelling for help because an adult was trying to relate to him.

Honestly this "cool" Christ and trying to relate to you that they are advocating is just silly. LAME. This trying to be hip brings in hardly any converts. They just see the faith as laughable. I wrote an article on something like this on my blog.

The Answer to a Common Problem

A common problem is that the Church is having difficulty getting the youth interested in the faith. In response, I'd like to tell a true story to show my own insight on the subject.

Long ago, when I was a freshman in high school, we all gathered into the gymn to listen to a public speaker. The last topic that he discussed with us was the Miraculous Medal of Our Lady. He told us the story behind it and talked about the grace that one receives by wearing it and even by kissing it. When he was done he offered us all a free Miraculous Medal. So many students were moved by the speaker's words and most if not everyone rushed down to get one! I had never seen anything like it before.

Sometime afterwords I realized why these young people reacted the way that they did: they were told the truth. They didn't have an adult try to "relate to them" by being "cool." There were no gimicks, no bells and whistles, no goofy catch frases to grab their attention. These ridiculous methods don't bring about conversion. The only thing that they will bring is laughter. Teenagers won't take you seriously if you use these techniques. They'll think that our religion is a big joke. How come people resort to redecorating our already breathtakingly- beautiful faith? This makeover is making the Church look ugly! The Catholic Church has been around for thousands of years and over these two-thousand or so years it has received numerous converts by proclaiming nothing but the truth. It's as simple as that. So don't water down this enormous bonfire! The youth are searching for the truth and nothing less!

Right but what difference does it make if Jesus is wearing jeans? I mean, I saw the preview and I just don't understand what the big deal is. It seems, to me, that Jesus' divinity and sanctity is not affected one bit by wearing jeans and having a friendly look on His face.

I just don't get it.

I honestly believe that "Jesus in Jeans" is just some catchy title the artist concocted. The outfit He is wearing looks more like a flowing Middle Eastern costume (or pajamas LOL but if you stop trying to see the jeans you see the Middle Eastern flavor to it). It is not inside a Church. If anything, it is "modern art."

Right. And, at the end of the day, as long as our Lord isn't being defiled (remember the paintings a few years ago that had feces thrown all over them? :sadder:  ), I really don't see the problem.

I think the problem lies in the fact that this statue was commissioned by a Church for the purpose of having it as part of the Church's decoration or what have you. I find it inappropriate for the setting of a Church. I could see it in a Modern Art exhibit, but it doesn't bring forth any sense of the sacred to me that it should to be placed anywhere on Church grounds. It once again shows that we are trying to make the Church fit us (society) rather than us fit the Church. I'm glad that they haven't done this to a statue of the Blessed Mother.

Didn't Jesus come down from Heaven and take on human form?

Yeah because that wasn't the garb of the day. If He came down today, He might. He'd probably wear Wranglers, like Brett Favre:

But the fact is that he didn't come down in today's society, he came down then not now.

And thus, we can't dress Him in anything but the garb of the day.

Is that the long and short of it?
