Desperate Prayers

One of my closest friends looks like he will be losing his mom.
The nutshell version is that things have deteriorated very quickly. On Friday (tomorrow) it will have only been 3 weeks that cancer was even mentioned. They have determined that the primary site is in the bowel and it has already metastasized to the ovaries, stomach, liver, and lung. (This list has changed a few times, but as far as I understand this is the picture we're looking at.) She was in ICU for several days where it was determined that the risks of surgical intervention outweigh the potential benefits and that at this point she isn't strong enough for chemo or radiation treatment. As you can imagine, it has been an emotional rollercoaster ride.
The palliative care team has started working with her and the plan is to focus on quality of life by controlling the pain. She is on a medical unit now waiting for a placement at one of the palliative sites.
This woman is quite literally a living saint. I have never had the pleasure of knowing anyone quite like her. I am so sad and emotional about this.

Normally, I am all about God's will be done, but I am really praying for a miracle for this one. This world could really use a saint like her a little longer :sadder:

Please keep her son in your prayers also. This is a terrible time for everyone.

Prose...most definite prayers. Just fyi, I'm an RN whose career has been dedicated to caring for advanced stage oncology patients, both in the hospital setting and in home hospice. If your friend would like an objective opinion, or just wants someone to talk to who is knowledgeable on the subject, PM me and I will give you my contact info. I'm always more than happy to give assistance when it comes to this.

I stand in personal experience...my father turned 51 the week he was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer which had metastasized to his brain. He lived for 6 weeks after the diagnosis, so I understand from both a patient/family and caregiver perspective what this situation is like.

I pray the Blessed Virgin gives your friend her maternal embrace, and I will include your friend and his family in my rosary today. May the peace of Christ enfold them.

May her passing be as gentle as a summer breeze, as she waits to run to the Father who loves her.
