Filmmaker's Virgin Mary Outrage

Filmmaker Justin Sisely has launched an advertising poster campaign in Sydney featuring an image of the Virgin Mary with male genitalia on her forehead.

Sisely gained notoriety in Melbourne in March when he posted "Virgins Wanted" placards at Monash University, hoping to attract a man and woman willing to let him document their first sexual experience, Ninemsn reports.

"It takes a pretty sick mind to come up with something like that just to get publicity," Sydney Archhdiocese spokeswoman Katrina Lee told Ninemsn.

"It's concerning that people are prepared to go down that track ... it's a sad indictment of them."

Sisely said he chose the Virgin Mary for the poster because, to him, religion constituted fiction.

"For me believing in God is like believing in James Bond," he said.

"It's just like fiction and I hate fictional narratives ... I don't know any young people who believe in God.

"Anyone can make fiction but if you're filming documentaries, you're transforming people's lives."

Sisely said one person who identified themselves as belonging to a church phoned his production company threatening legal action earlier this week but left no further details.
