Our church creaks like an old wooden sailing ship.

lol My grandfather was stationed in the Philippines during WWII. He says he remembers attending Mass in a Church made from an old wooden ship that had capsized.

Your Church looks like a Presbyterian Church near my house.

That's what I think the architect of the Oakland cathedral had in mind, especially considering Oakland's geography.

Oh, none taken. To be completely honest, I wish they'd just go ahead and close it so we could move on.

Actually, compared to the boxy, sterile, featureless, textureless stuff out there yours is not half bad.

The paint job inside made a huge difference a few years ago. Pittsburgh is littered with gorgeous churches though.

So true so true, we are blessed in that respect. Some of the newer ones, not so much.

[quote name='Apotheoun' post='1860849' date='May 7 2009, 02:32 PM']I have been there once (i.e., in the new Oakland cathedral), and I must say that it is very plain on the inside, and from the outside -- as you approach the building -- it looks like a nuclear power plant.

I went with some friends who were visiting from Arizona a couple of weeks ago to a hierarchical liturgy at the Russian Orthodox cathedral of the Holy Virgin in San Francisco, and it was a wonderful experience.

Brother Adam

Yes, the orthodox know how to get some things right ;)

I can only pray that modern church architecture dies a swift death fast.
