Looks like it's time for someone to transfer to a Canadian school :smokey:
Complicated I'm sure doesn't even cover it. What exactly does 'sponser' mean?
My husband had to sponsor me for immigration to Canada. That means he agrees to be financially responsible for me for 3 years. If you are sponsoring someone other than a spouse or minor child, like your parents, it's for 10 years. I take great pleasure in telling him when he is paying the registrar at Newman that he promised to be financially responsible for me.

One of the reasons I came here, is that I would not have been allowed to sponsor Austin to the US. I didn't make enough money at the time, and his illness would have made for a long approval process. Once I get my Canadian citizenship, I'm going to sponsor him in the US. I have enough money now, and am better prepared to fight them that he doesn't pose a hazard. Eventually we'd like to spend half of the year in Canada and the other half in the US.
Basically a poor college student can sponsor a foreign wife for immigration to Canada, but can't to the U.S. Immigrants are better protected under Canadian law than they are under U.S. law. It is complicated. That's why immigration consultants here who just fill out the paperwork get paid $5000. I'm glad I could fill my own out by myself.
This is also very good to know...

Do you know anything about the expediting process here? I can't find it on the website and I was talking to representative and she said she was filling out the I-907 form, and I gave her both phone numbers and the call dropped and she never called back. There is no way that I could call back and actually speak to her and she had the number. Now I don't know if the form is filled out or what.

We were half way through it and it seems like she would have called back... :idontknow:

I aslo convinced my friend to call the immigration services in Immokalee at Catholic charities. I haven't heard back from them, either.

The estimated time for her papers says 6 months and they were received March 20. She has cancer and is due in September which is six months from March, so she'll be lucky if they even have any response by then.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Avocados are pretty sweet.

One thing that you can't do with immigration is hurry them. Catholic Charities is a really good resource. They do the same work here. I've had people pay $10,000 to an immigration attorney, and still not get it done a day faster.

yeah.. I was afraid of that.

It does still say that expediting is an option, though... heh.
