The "catholic" name should be removed from the school by the local bishop. Perhaps a drastic move of that kind will cause the leadership of the university to rethink its present position.

It is a lie to call Notre Dame a Catholic school.
Notre Dame has strayed far from its founding principles, but there are still many, many faithful Catholics teaching there.
I have gone to public schools that had good Catholic teachers, but a few good Catholic teachers did not make the institution Catholic.
It would be a shame to give up on such an iconic university . . .
It would be better to lose an iconic university than to risk the loss of young souls to heretical teaching.
The only way that perhaps the better course of action would be to clean house.
It should only be allowed to retain its Catholic name if it does just what you have suggested above.

This picture is from a couple years ago ... this year's procession was held last Sunday.

For anyone interested, the website for that is: here

They quote a lot from the catechism. Some of the explanations about what homosexuality is are questionable, but they stick to Church teaching that homosexuals should lead chaste lives.

Some good Catholic things going on at Our Lady's University:

After the Motu, Proprio, ND was among the first Catholic Universities to begin offering the Extraordinary form. It's offered every week by Holy Cross priests.

The Law School just got a new chapel ... stained glass, kneelers, tabernacle in the center. They're building a new engineering building with another chapel attached.

I wonder if we could ship that via U.S. mail?

It's actually not the quality of teaching that determines whether or not a university is Catholic, according to Canon 803 § 1: "A Catholic school is understood as one which a competent ecclesiastical authority or a public ecclesiastical juridic person directs or which ecclesiastical authority recognizes as such through a written document."

Of course, the university is not permitted to be known as "Catholic" without permission from a competent ecclesiastical authority. But, revoking permission to use that term would be a big step, one that I don't believe should be taken until other means of redress have been exhausted.

The university does have certain responsibilities for its education, since it is a Catholic institution. And the bishops and other ecclesiastical authorities have responsibilities to oversee and guide the university where appropriate. But the university has wide latitude in determining its own course.

While I certainly don't agree with many actions the administration has taken, I think the measures that authorities have taken so far have been appropriate.

I'd argue it's a more insulting mockery to have a university bearing her name that does things like inviting the most pro-abortion president in history to speak at said university's commencement.

I tend to agree with USAir on this one.

I'm thinking picking her was a token gesture to pro-lifers. Wonder if he will try get another pro-lifer to show. Hopefully and they will turn him down as well. He almost needs to pich another heretic because I don't think after this that any faithful Catholic would touch this commencement with a 10 foot pole. Maybe Sebellius or Biden will join him.
