the fact that God suffered and died for people like Hitler and Stalin, knowing who they were and what they would do in their lifetime make's His sacrifice of Love even more amazing, and makes their deeds even more horrid.

But if God can love the unlovable, then we can too. Christ, fully man, proved the impossible, possible.
True but I don't see how he could be ?
maybe he is maybe he isn't. I don't know if the other posters are indicating he could be in heaven or not. Personally I have no reason to believe he is. I don't think there is any reason to believe he changed his ways and accepted any form of the necessary sacraments to be saved (though that's starting a whole new debate so no need to go there).
If anyone is in hell, its probably him. I still try not to hate him, but now feel sorry for where he has to be and pray other people who think like him can recognize what happened to him and change their ways.

the most likely candidate in all of history for an eternal fate in hell is Judas, since Jesus pretty much said it would be better for him if he had never been born.

Hitler ranks high up there among the very likely residents of the eternal flames.

you're right, my mistake. I'm sometimes known to struggle with hyperbole in order to make a point :)
Yes you're a trillion times more deserving of Gods mercy then Hitler. If Hitler wound up in Heaven somehow It would blow my mind. I dont know how he possibly could ?
Reminds me of the joke:
A guys dies, and gets to the pearly gates, walks up to St. Peter and says, "So I made it?? Oh thank God! I was a little worried for a minute." St. Peter says, "Yes, brother, you did. Now come, I'll give you a tour."
So they walk in, and St. Peter starts showing him around. He notices some of the others there, and expresses his shock to St. Peter (quietly, of course) at seeing them. "Mary Ann? She's here!? She cheated on her husband!", "Jack!? He was fired for embezzling from his company!", "Miss Van Stern!? She was the worst teacher who ever lived!", and so forth, seeing people he was even more surprised at seeing.
All of a sudden, he realised everyone was silent, and that they were all looking at him. He asked St. Peter what was going on, and St. Peter responded,...

"They're all shocked to see YOU!"

A funny little joke that reminds us about the log that we have in our own eye sometimes (and this isn't directed at you, DB, but at everyone). :)

I think we can all be assured, however, that Hitler didn't have just a spec in his eye... whatever beams we have in our own eyes, Hitler had a huge beam as well. Only God can judge the man's soul, his culpability, and the state of his soul and all that, but genocide is a huge beam and it makes God very very angry. I think we can determine solely on the basis of our understanding of God's perfect justice that Hitler at the very least will have a very long time in purgatory, probably until the end of time, if he's not in eternal hell.

I, for one, would love to eventually be able to embrace a Hitler who had been purified by the flames of purgatory and say "welcome to the good side, brother in Christ" upon meeting him in heaven. do I think that to be a likely scenario? no I don't, but imagine the statement of God's mercy if you did show up in heaven and saw him in purgatory being made perfect, or met him after he had been cleansed of all the evil that had twisted up his heart. imagine.

God only knows. there's no way there's not at least some nazis in hell though. the devil did a lot to their souls.

This passage from Ezekiel is so appropriate...

Chapter 18
[26] When a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits iniquity, he shall die for it; for the iniquity which he has committed he shall die.
[27] Again, when a wicked man turns away from the wickedness he has committed and does what is lawful and right, he shall save his life.
[28] Because he considered and turned away from all the transgressions which he had committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
[29] Yet the house of Israel says, `The way of the Lord is not just.' O house of Israel, are my ways not just? Is it not your ways that are not just?

DB read that whole chapter if you get a chance.

I wasn't insinuating that I believe Hitler to be in Heaven, just that the discourse reminded me of that anecdote.
