Dave
If a priest intends to use the correct formula for absolution but instead has a slip of the tongue and doesn't realize it, is the absolution still valid? For example, say a priest accidentally says, "May God forgive you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit." And yet you know it's accidental because said priest has heard your confessions before and said it the way it should be said. Help!
Pontifex
Be assurred that your sins are forgiven. "Eccelsia Supla"-The Church will supply. The Grace of the sacraments are confered even if the priest goofs up the words. I have had similar experiences as a penitent and it does make you feel a bit uneasy but like I said, no need for you to worry. Peace to you. Fr.
