Two Pillars

Brother Adam

There are two pillars that hold the reformation up. One is Sola Scriptura and one is Sole Fide.

Phatmass already took a bulldozer in and removed Sola Scriptura from my life....so what's this? What's happening? Shall we take a look and see?

Oh my....

It looks like Theologian in Training, Dust, Carson, Dave, phatcatholic...it looks like dynamite they are tossing around the Sole Fide Pillar.

Wait....

It's not dynamite. It's scripture verses!

But why the heck would they use scripture for sole fide?

What's this? Katie? LittleFlower? Tina? What is it you are laying down?

Kindness and charity?!

And ironmonk? That looks like Church History...

How is that going to knock down this great pillar of the reformation?

uh-oh....
let me reiterate the distinctions that must be made in order for a catholic to say "we are saved by faith alone."
1. by the word "saved" we mean "eternal life in heaven," not "justification of the spirit," which catholics believe we can lose.
2. this faith is an obedient faith. it is inseperable from good works.
3. grace is the initial catalyst as well as the motivation for this obedient faith.
4. as such, this obedient faith only "saves" if it is maintained by grace and free will until the very end.
This can't be good...
Galatians 5:6 (ESV)
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love.
Umm guys....ehh....guys....ehh, thinks you better back up...

As Winnie the Pooh said.....Oh dear me.

Brother Adam

I'm starting to think like my wife who said, "Adam, I have a feeling we're both going to end up Catholic".

I never expected to find Catholicism in the Bible like I am. So along with the amazing exegesis of Dr. Scott Hahn...

There's only 5 more doctrines left for me to study in depth...better get started...

Oh btw Adam, it seems what you and your wife are going through is similar to what I've went through. Only I wasn't baptist, more of a mix of different denominations (but leaning more towards Pentecostalism). And it wasn't that long ago too, I started my spiritual journey towards Catholicism in January 2003.

Adam, my prayers are with you and your wife ... I went through much the same thought process myself not so very long ago. I love that you are being so open about your thought process. I know it has helped me think through some things more thoroughly, and I'm sure that's true of others here as well.

God bless you both! :)

I just want to thank Brother Adam, I am going through RCIA right now and approaching the Easter Vigil going to first confession tonight. His journey has helped me reflect upon my own and gained greater understanding into the truths taught by our Holy Apostolic Church. I come from a protestant bacground as well and so the journey has had its fair trials but i know now without hardly any shadow of a doubt i have made the right decision. So thanks Bro Adam...and also others like Phat Catholics and all phatmassers.

Brother Adam

If a tree falls in the middle of a forest with no one there to hear it, does it make a sound?
