If you don't do your penance, is your confession still valid?

When I went to confession before Holy Week I'm not sure if father gave me two penances or one penance and some advice. If it was the first, then I didn't fully complete my penance. And now, since it had to do with lent, it's too late. :idontknow:

Your confession is still valid. For a valid confession you need a validly ordained priest, contrition for your sins, and valid absolution.

Penance is given as part of confession as an act to remit the temporal punishment due to sin.

You may mention in confession next time your confusion over the penance.
