I watched this last night. I think it's a good movie. I was smiling almost the whole time. :) I think it's a great way to show that having LOTS of kids can be fun. :) It's actually a movie that makes me consider having a big family. I dunno, still scared to have kids tho.. but this movie is just so funny! You guys should see it. It's on DVD now. :) BTW, It's GREAT for all ages! I give the movie 5 stars.
Having a large family is totally awesome. I would recommend being open to life and accepting the children God has planned for you. Generally speaking, you get them one at a time and He continues to provide what you need when you need it. Homeschooling them is an added bonus. You will never regret it.

If you can borrow the book "Who Gets the Drumstick" you will be amazed how much Hollywood added. They did not try to get Helen drunk. That is definitely Hollywood. They really loved her. They were glad their dad married her. It is a good Catholic book to read as they were Catholic and devoted to their faith. It is an easy read and very well done. It is out of print but most libraries can get it for you even if they don't have it. Just ask. It is worth it.

The old one is definitely better, though corny and melodramatic at the same time. Personally, the new one disgusted me, but I am an idealist I suppose. The original has been a timeless favorite at our house...and kind of our image of utopia since the main goal of my siblings and I was to have a larger family than anyone else! Our parents did not share our ideal, however, for they stopped at 8 :duel: :bike: :secret: :console: Definitely a great movie, and they did a fairly good job (for hollywood) explaining what married love was about.

Another good large family book for reading is The Story of the Von Trapp Family Singers, written by Maria Von Trapp. Daddy wasn't so stern and overbearing, there were more children, the family was already musically inclined and loving, etc.

I love the old version!!! I've watched it about a dozen times. I really like the part where Henry Fonda is talking to the oldest girl about sex. It's a great little speech (and timeless too).

Think the original is much, much, much better for it is a testiment to the beauty of marriage and family life. You also get the real sense of the true story, about a faithful Catholic couple. The remake had some issues that seem to be politically driven and was a very shallow take on the family life and the marriage.

Check out the 1968 version. Much better then the remake! Trust me! I have seen both.
