How Wonderful!

What's "Christ is Risen! He is truly Risen" in old Slavic and Latin again? I can't seem to find it in the PM archives.

Christ is risen from the dead,
by death He conquered death,
and to those in the graves He granted life!

In the icon Christ rises from the dead, and – while He stands on the broken gates of hades – He pulls Adam and Eve out of the grave of death with Him, and gives them eternal life.

It is death personified, and it can also stand for Satan, and even all the damned.

What I like about this icon is how manly and invincible Christ looks as he pulls out Adam and Eve from the grave.

Is it true that figures in icons will never cast shadows?
I heard or read this once, but then I saw what I assumed was an icon that had shadows in it... I figure you'd know.

I have never seen any icons where the figures cast shadows, but I cannot say for certain that this holds in every case.

I think it would odd for there to be shadows in an icon, because the saints are not simply bathed in the uncreated Light of Tabor as if it were something external to them; instead, that holy light emanates from them.
