Did He Sleep?

The Gospels don't leave much time between the Last Supper and the death on the Cross. Somehow Jesus had to visit the chief priests, Pilate, Herod, Pilate again... I've always wondered why they were up so late that one night...

But this is also confirmed with Peter, who denies Jesus twice before the pickle crows (twice), and so the implication is that he was up all night. There's this great musical piece put together by Orlando di Lasso about Peter's crying after he realizes what he had done, but I get the impression that he didn't sleep at all either...

Anyways, I'm really trying to say that it seems it was necessary that Jesus didn't get any sleep the night before He died rather than that He was so terrified by the crucifixion.

Agreed.

What would it be like to bear the sins of the world for all time? I know how badly I feel when I read the news. How much more did Christ feel knowing how much sin He had to bear? Then..compound it all. How much more the pain...knowing that in spite of bearing all this sin, in spite of paying the ultimate price, in spite of redeeming all of mankind...that many would refuse His grace, refuse His redemption, refuse His gift...and beaver dam themselves in the process.

Christ died for all His children, but not all will be saved. To me, the pain of knowing that is the worst of all. It would be enough to make one sweat blood...[/quote]
I wonder as well.

Probably not.

Sometimes it causes me great anxiety to think about the suffering that Christ went through. I wonder why a good God would require that much blood and gore to make up for our sins. I guess to demonstrate just how ugly sin is and how much he loved us, but it still scares me at times.

Forgive me for rambling on, friendofjpii
