Archaeology cat
That's true. I think it's a little bit more understandable in his case, though. For one, much of his twitching is due to his condition. Secondly, he has a much stronger interest in finding a cure. Even if you are pretty sure research is not on the right path for a cure, it's still hard to hear. On the other hand, Oprah has no particular personal interest (that I know of) for using embryonic stem cells... merely political ones. And her fidgeting in her seat and messing with her hair, to me, shows she is really uncomfortable with his announcement. Maybe she was signalling for the producers to get the big hook.
Yes, I agree. I was just going off of the expression on his face, not the twitching, since that is from the Parkinson's. I can't imagine how hard it is for him, really, or for anyone in a similar situation.
prose
I thoroughly enjoy when we ostracize the majority opinion and welcome the minority opinion just because it fits with our beliefs. Science, unlike religion, tends to depend on the majority of trained minds assenting to a scientifically backed opinion.
What??? No it doesn't!! In fact, science does not depend on the majority at all. Ever. Our society sometimes will do that, but science never does. Science depends on observation of facts. And no matter what the majority "votes" it does not change that. With this line of thinking, we would have never discovered that the earth circled the sun (the majority believed the other way around) and many other things. And for the record, people who support escr are not necessarily the "majority" anyways. There are many, many scientists that do not believe this is an effective or useful form of research, and (this may shock you) many are not religious at all. They are basing their beliefs on SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH. Observable facts. And those facts do not lead to the logic of using escr for a multitude of reasons. Not acknowledging this is not a sign of religious dependence, but rather a sign of stubbornness which has no place in science.
