cmaD2006
I am in favor of working towards getting people to dress more formally in general, but to have a snobbish attitude towards anyone just because they have casual clothes on is a terribly unChristian thing and shouldn't be stood for among Catholics.
If I understand this statement right I think I agree ... I think we should dress modestly, more formal is better; but if someone walks in (especially someone new) with attire that we disagree with we shouldn't completely snob them off. I know of a parish (outside of the US, but hopefully this has happened here too!) where transexuals and prostitutes have walked in during the homily, and had a conversion experience -- and over time left their lifestyles. If people had been uncharitable then maybe they wouldn't have had the chance to be led back to God. I do believe in educating the faithful as to what is acceptible dress (especially where modesty is concerned); but it needs to be done in such a way that is charitable. Personally I do wear jeans and a sweater/shirt/something presentable to mass. I don't wear holey jeans in general (I know it sounds like a pun but no pun intended hee hee), or jeans that look like they are ready to be used as rags. saintwannabe 777
I personally wear a nice shirt, a tie, and dressy pants to mass, just to be safe. In case Big Bro Yesh rolls through and kicks me down to a lower class seat.
