I'm what doctors call "slow".
Re-posting because it really needs to be said... Enough with this picking of nits.
I'm sorry, I disagree. Maybe with some of his misspeaking, I can see that, but not with the whole bowing incident. He's the President of the United States. He should have enough sense about him (or at least enough advisors) to know that he doesn't bow to foreign heads of state. And that's not something that slips out, like a mispronunciation of the word "nuclear" or like thanking yourself. I mean, this is really basic stuff, folks. If you're not a subject of a monarch, you don't defer to them in the manner a subject would! He didn't bow before the Queen, did he? I'm sorry, this whole thing just really gets me. XIX
I must say I disagree that bowing doesn't just slip out. How long does it take to bow? A second? Three seconds? People do weird things when they are being watched by a hundred million of us surfing youtube. It is interesting that Obama is blundering worse than Bush ever did. Aloysius
watch the video, it's not a simple head bow: if he did it at "et incarnatus est..." in the Novus Ordo, he'd qualify as having made a deep and profound bow from the waist... and then some. it was a huge bow. watch the video, he pretty much went to a 90 degree angle. Bush's gaffes were funny/made him look stupid. Obama's gaffes are kind of funny, but they often make him look much more disrespectful to our allies (like the prime minister of Britain) or simply ambivalent about our national sovereignty (showing signs of subjection to foreign monarchs)... I see them as tending to be far more serious. Bush's gaffes made him look stupid and maybe made him look a bit incompetent, Obama's gaffes are more serious... sending letters to President Chirac, ignoring protocols for the Prime Minister of England, bowing to foreign monarchs? a Bush gaffe would've been a friendly handshake as he patted him on the head and accidentally knocked his turban off. this Obama gaffe is much more disturbing to me, as a general principal. follow the link to Miss Manners, no American should bow to a foreign monarch, let alone the President of the USA. I'd probably bow to the Queen of England. Fortunately, I don't think I have to worry about either situation any time in the near future.

One president has problems figuring how to treat and interact with leaders of foreign nations. I guess that's about even.
