Nihil Obstat
I'm going to stay up until 12 just to see if I get some fatal crash... I'm slightly worried, but then again... it's only a computer. The only cool thing we've got is about 9GB of music, and it's not like I can't get it back. It's all stuff we have on CD, so in the end, just hours of work to get it back on. eagle_eye222001
It's simple to see if you have it. Just see if your computer will update stuff. If it can, your fine. If not, then you have issues. Hardly rocket science to diagnose.

I haven't actually been listening to any news stuff about it. Can't bring myself to care about anything computer related, unless it's laptops coming down in price. I hate computers. eagle_eye222001
No problem. I heard from a news story that the worm will try to stop your computer from updating. So it will turn off automatic updating and if you try to manually update, it will prevent you from doing so. So as long as your computer can check for updates okay, you should be clear. If you have it, I don't know what your supposed to do. I kinda doubt changing the computer's date will do anything as everything I have heard about this worm is that this is something to really be worried about. If it could be averted by having your computer skipping a day, I think we would have heard it by now. I'm looking at no more than $850, can't get a MacBook for less than $1100-1300. I pretend to be a hardcore PC, because of all the ads making it sound like it's hip, but honestly, I don't even care. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...tml?nav=igoogle ----------- Q: How can I tell if my computer has been hit by Conficker? How would I remove it? AThis virus (sometimes called Downadup) has been infecting Windows computers for the past several months. It's an exceptionally persistent, aggressive threat. It can spread over shared flash-memory drives, and the most recent variant even blocks access to Web sites of security-software vendors. (If you can't reach http://microsoft.com, your PC is in trouble.) On April 1, copies of Conficker may download extra-malicious code -- to do what remains unclear -- so you'd better make sure your PC is clean before then. The Internet Storm Center, a project of the Bethesda-based SANS Institute, maintains a list of links to Conficker-removal tools from numerous security-software developers (http://isc.sans.org/diary.html?storyid =5860). Since Conficker can stop you from getting to that page and those links, you may need to borrow an uninfected machine to download a removal tool. Some vendors also have set up alternate Web addresses that Conficker doesn't know about; for instance, try http://fsecure.com or http://bdtools.net for free Conficker fixes from F-Secure and BitDefender. ad_icon Of course, if you've set Windows to install Microsoft security patches automatically and have kept your anti-virus utility current, you should be safe. So if you haven't been downloading those updates, now would be a swell time to start. -------------

I'm a bit hopelessly countercultural/contrarian. Those ads with the Mac versus PC are literally making me not want to ever go Mac.
Nihil Obstat
It's well past 12 now. To be honest, I was kinda hoping for something spectacular. Now I go to bed. After I get my 3150 posts, because I'm so close now.
