Wiki does not mention how and when she died. I believe that is the date she disappeared, and they are assuming her death. I heard she either went off and committed suicide or was murdered. I do believe it's Sanger I'm thinking of. There was some mystery because her body was never found. I wonder why this is left out of the Wiki bio? I will have to explore some more.

Yeah, I thought it a bit curious they didn't mention cause of death. Let me know what you find - I'm curious now.

I think you're thinking of Madalyn Murray O’Hair, the head atheist. Easy to get them confused, both were Irish Catholic women off the beam. She disappeared Aug. 28, 1995 and at first the cops thought they had just run away with the American Atheist's money. Later they found out that she and her son, I think, had been held for several months before being murdered. They found her body in 2001.

It involved a whole bunch of gold coins. They said that her body had been completely taken apart and burned. Her surviving son is an evangelical minister, and he went with her wishes by not having prayers at her burial. It happened in Texas, so was publicized more in my part of the country than yours.
